Escential Lotions and Oils started in a tiny Portland, Oregon storefront in 1979 with the simple goal to offer the best quality bath and skin care at a reasonable price with excellent customer service.

The opening became a family event, with owner Meg Mann's family building shelves and counters, and Emily, her eight-year old daughter, labeling the first batch of soaps. Escential, now a second-generation independent, woman-owned business, has passed from mother to daughter.

Escential has grown into a bustling store in Portland's busy Hawthorne district", a rapidly growing Internet business, and a our traditional mail-order catalogue business. We are proud to be featured in Portland's "Best Places". If you are in Portland, please visit us at 3638 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Our store hours are Mon-Sat 10-6, and Sun 11-5.

Escential is affordable to everyone. We have kept our packaging plain and simple - just quality ingredients in a quality product.

Escential is earth-friendly. We urge our local customers to bring their empty bottles in for refills. Some of our customers have been using the same bottle for twenty years! That is a lot of plastic that didn't make it to the landfill! We reuse everything we possibly can - including the boxes and packing in which we ship orders. We urge you to continue the cycle.  We support other local and sustainable businesses.
